NOC Terminology

NOC Calendar Terminology and Abbreviations

Rnd =   Round  (as in round dancing,   like ball room dancing but with cues)Includes many forms such as two-step and waltz, as well as many levels (ie. phase II or phase III)

Pre-Rnds =   Round dancing done just in advance of a square dance (usually about 1/2 hour)
 
MS =  Mainstream  ( as in the entry level of square dancing)

Rhody O's  =  Rhody O's Square Dance club,   started by the Rhododendron Grange at Gardiner in 1976. This is a mainstream club with phase II & III round dancing between square dance tips.

Plus
=  Plus Level Square Dancing  (  the second level of square dancing,  following mainstream)

4PLUS4's =  4PLUS4  Square Dance Club.
This is a "plus" level club with phase III & IV round dancing between square dance tips.
 
"A"  =  Advance Level Square Dancing  ( the third level of square dancing,  following plus)

A-Team =  The A-Team square dance club.
This is an advance level square dance club.   There is no Round dancing in this group
 
Caller =  The individual who sings out the various square dance steps,   (each step is a "call")
 
Cuer  =  The individual who sings out the various round dance steps,   (each step is a "cue")
 
Workshop =   A dancing opportunity where the caller will make a particular effort to help resolve dance questions  (as opposed to a Lesson,  where the dancing is being learned for the first time or a Dance where the calling a cueing is continuous and there is less time to go back and fix things)

Forks Hoh Downers:    Hoh Downers Square Dance club,   Established in Forks, Washington in 2006.   This is a mainstream club with some round dancing between square dance tips.  The name is NOT a misspelling of the word "hoe",  but is instead a reference to the local Hoh River.

Red Hot Twirlers:     Red Hot Twirlers Square Dance club, dancing in Chimacum,  Wa.   This is a mainstream club with Phase II & III round dancing between square dance tips.  Established as a family club with lots of "red hot" energy.

Strait Wheelers:        The Strait Wheeler Square Dance Club,  established in Port Angeles, and dancing in Agnew,  Wa.  This is a mainstream Club with round dancing between square dance tips.  Name is a reference to the Strait of Juan De Fuca.

NOCCA:        North Olympic Caller/Cuer Association.   Membership includes all of the callers and cuers who regularly perform and/or reside within the area of the North Olympic Council.   Their organization is established to provide support and improvement opportunities for active square dance callers and round dance cuers
